Slowly, slowly but determinedly, the population of the United States is beginning to wake up from the lethargy in which it has been plunged and is reacting to the crazy measures being taken by the Donald Trump administration, which are also having a harsh impact on local citizens.

Through social networks and other communication mechanisms, a novel movement called "50 protests, 50 states, 1 day" is taking shape to publicly reject the actions of the White House and demand the intervention of Congress and other bodies.

The idea, organizers say, is to prevent the tycoon from imposing a far-right handbook for U.S. government and society. One of the first targets of the discontent is South African-born billionaire Elon Musk.

Democracy is not a spectator sport, do something; reject fascism and defend our democracy, read some of the demands of the people.

According to press reports, about 500 people gathered in front of the Michigan Capitol in freezing temperatures.

They denounced Trump's plans to occupy the Gaza Strip and expel the Palestinian people to other countries in the Middle East, as well as the elimination of rights for the U.S. transgender community and the mass deportation of people with irregular immigration status.

Similar actions took place in Southern California and in the city of Los Angeles, where crowds shut down a freeway for several hours on a recent Sunday.

To paraphrase the title of last year's blockbuster movie, the tycoon president has been lashing out at everyone, everywhere and at the same time, and while he has succeeded in bending the will of some Central American countries, things are not going so well elsewhere or at home.

The day before, a court suspended a government ultimatum dictated by Elon Musk to allegedly reduce public spending, which would have forced two million public employees to resign in exchange for eight months' salary.

Even in the United States, the sudden unemployment of two million people is a heavy blow that could be postponed thanks to the work of unions and other organizations and a federal judge in Massachusetts.  In the opinion of some, the Democratic Party, which has been almost wiped off the political map in the Northern power, has not yet woken up.
