Arguments are being gathered to possibly put the ultra-right former president Jair Bolsonaro on trial for a coup d'état

In Brazil, arguments are being gathered to possibly put the ultra-right former president Jair Bolsonaro on trial for a coup d'état that will shake the foundations of the man who boasted of being a democrat while in office.

After the Supreme Court informed him of the prosecution's accusation that he was leading a coup plot to overturn Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's victory in the 2022 elections, the former army captain intensified his diatribes against the government and the judicial system.

The arrogant leader of the ultra-conservatives and 33 other defendants have 15 days to present their allegations, after which Judge Alexandre de Moraes, the investigator of the case, will take the complaint to the First Chamber of the Supreme Court, the body that decides whether to open the trial.

Until now, the former head of state has not felt himself on the ropes, despite his fraud against democracy, but Brazil is entering a unique period due to the proximity of the 2026 elections.

Therefore, the oligarchy, the political ultra-right, conservative religious sectors and Bolsonaro's family are trying to avoid the worst, the accusation of plotting a coup in which, according to investigations, he tried to involve the military.

His former personal aide, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, confirms this, but the plan also included the assassination of Lula, the triumphant candidate in the elections.

Brazilians and the world remember that the extremists bet everything that Lula would not become head of state and even launched the seizure of the Presidency, the Supreme Court and the Parliament on January 8, 2023.

This was not only a daring act, but also a strategy to break the constitutional order, as evidenced by the police investigations that led to the arrest and conviction of almost 400 people.

In the midst of this judicial disaster for Bolsonaro, progressive forces are calling to support President Lula, who is being subjected to negative media campaigns.

They are trying to destroy the positive image of the dignitary, strengthened by the growth of the economy, employment and the implementation of social policies.

It would be a mistake to think that Bolsonaro and his supporters are done, because they can resort to destabilizing maneuvers.

It has already happened, according to police certainties, when Bolsonaro, an admirer of Donald Trump, was able to draw up a sinister plan called "Operation Green and Yellow Dagger" to abort the results of the 2022 elections.
