Bogota, August 5 (RHC)—Participants in the  28th Festival of Women in Scene for Peace underway in the Colombian capital, paid tribute on Sunday to Cuban intellectual Roberto Fernandez Retamar and the Casa de las Americas.

Colombian actress, director and playwright Patricia Ariza said that '”Fernandez Retamar, who died last July 20, was one of the most representative men of Latin American and Caribbean letters and thought.”

On behalf of the Festival, the Colombian Theater Corporation and the La Candelaria Theater, the playwright expressed to Cuba “the gratitude of a large part of the Colombian people for its contribution, its generosity throughout the peace process in Colombia.”

During the Festival, which runs until August 11, a tribute was also paid to Haydée Santamaria the founder of Casa de las Americas.

Haydee was a woman of peasant origin, extremely sensitive, who risked her life for the Revolution, who went to the Sierra Maestra and who, after the triumph of the Revolution, dedicated herself entirely to a revolutionary, Latin Americanist and humanist culture.
