Singer Omara Portuondo releases new version of ‘Contigo en la Distancia’ by Cesar Portillo de la Luz

This past Thursday, singer Omara Portuondo released via social networks a new version of the classical Cuban tune ‘Contigo en la Distancia’ (With you in the distance), recorded from her home.

Known internationally as the diva of the Buena Vista Social Club, Omara chose the anthological tune by Cesar Portillo de la Luz to send a message of hope in times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Contigo En La Distancia" ( With You In The Distance ) is a bolero filín song written by Portillo de la Luz, in 1946. He was 24. One of the most popular bolero tunes in Cuba and Latin America, it is included in the repertoire of several famous artists, from tenor Plácido Domingo to Luis Miguel, Il Divo, Pedro Infante and Christina Aguilera.

For this new version of Contigo En La Distancia, Omara Portuondo counts on the accompaniment of Mexican singer Eugenia León and Cubans, singer Guernalis Junco, female singer of the Failde orchestra and pianist José Antonio González Font.
