The 2nd edition of the International Timba Festival ‘Formell Forever’ has been postponed to September 2021, due to sanitary measures in place in times of the Covid-19 pandemic
According to organizers, the event, as a tribute to Cuban composer, bassist, arranger and band leader Juan Formell, was originally scheduled in August this year. Musical ensembles and timba dancers, experts, art critics and musicologists from some 20 nations had confirmed their participation in the event.
Juan Formell founded the group Los Van Van and made it into one of the world’s greatest dance bands. Before his death on May 1st, 2014, Formell had repeatedly expressed the need to create a global musical event on the musical genre called timba
The event is organized by Artex, Los Van Van orchestra, RTV Comercial and the Alzara Communication Group, with the collaboration of the Cuban Ministry of Culture, the Cuban Music Institute, the Recording and Musical Editions Company (Egrem), Bis Music and Clave Cubana.
Samuel Formell, son of the legendary Cuban musician and the current director of Los Van Van, announced that August 4th –the 78th birthday anniversary of Juan Formell—will not go unnoticed, as there will be a special tribute on digital platforms, with the streaming of the concert dedicated to Juan Formell during the previous festival in 2019. The concert will be streamed on the YouTube channel of the record company Bis Music.
