Havana, August 12 (RHC)-- Children's theater director Rubén Darío Salazar and designer Zenén Calero will receive on Wednesday the 2020 National Theater Award, granted by the Cuban National Performing Arts Council.

The official ceremony will take place at the Sauto Theater, in the western province of Matanzas, where the 26th anniversary of the founding of the Las Estaciones theater group will also be celebrated. Salazar, general director of the National Puppet Theater, has a vast experience in the art form and has worked as a teacher and researcher of Cuban drama for children and its main cultivators on the island, including the life and work of the Camejo brothers and writer Dora Alonso.

Founder of Teatro de Las Estaciones, the puppeteer and actor previously received the Villanueva de la Crítica prize, Caricato awards from the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (Uneac), as well as National Culture Order in his more than 25 years of work. This year, the artist represented Cuba during the online conference of the ResiliArt project of the International Puppet Union and was awarded by the Association of Show Chroniclers (ACE) of New York.

Likewise, the jury awarded the prize to designer Zenén Calero, who has a solid career for his work with Las Estaciones Theater Company and was awarded in the Rubén Vigón National Design Contest, organized by Uneac. According to specialized critics, both figures are the heart and soul of Teatro de Las Estaciones, a leading group in the art in Cuba, which has distinguished the island's children's creation in numerous theatrical events in the Caribbean and Central America. The jury that awarded the prize in 2020 was made up of theater personalities from the Caribbean country, including director Carlos Díaz, actress Verónica Lyn, Gerardo Fulleda, Carlos Pérez Peña and designer Nieves Laferté.
