Barcelona, January 15, (RHC)-- The 38th Dance Season of the Terrassa de Barcelona Cultural Center in Spain will pay homage to prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, organizers announced on Thursday.

During the homage-paying gala, set for April 10th, renowned dancers with Ballet Nacional de Cuba –the flagship Cuban classical dance company founded and directed by Alicia—will dance emblematic ballets immortalized by Alicia Alonso.

Alicia developed a long, fruitful artistic life, combining her work as a dancer, choreographer, and dance professor. She died in October 2019 in Havana at the age of 98.

For this season, from January 29th through December 18th, Terrassa de Barcelona has planned an ambitious programming with some 20 dance performances, featuring 17 Spanish and foreign dance troupes, among them Ballet Nacional de España, Russian State Ballet of Siberia, directed by prestigious choreographer Viacheslav Mijailovich Gordeev; the Jivoy Dance Company with soloists from the Mariinsky Theatre Ballet of Saint Petersburg and Acosta Danza, directed by prestigious Cuban dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta, among other dance companies.

Ballet classics like Giselle, Coppelia, and Nutcracker and performances by leading dancers and soloists with New York City Ballet, the Antonio Márquez’ troupe, and the American company Ailey II, complete the program.

With this new dance season, Terrassa de Barcelona Cultural Center renews its commitment to culture and the dance world after a 37th season marked by COVID-19.
