Havana, March 16 (RHC)-- Cultural institutions in the Cuban province of Matanzas announced a series of actions in 2021 and 2022 to pay homage to Cuban poet Carilda Oliver Labra on her 100th birthday anniversary.

The director of the Centro del Libro y la Literatura, Efraín Pérez Izquierdo invited writers to participate by submitting works dedicated to the renowned writer, as well as to commemorate historic events in the province and the nation. He pointed, for instance to the 60th anniversary this year of Cuba’s victory at Bay of Pigs and the 100th birthday anniversary of Cuban intellectual Cintio Vitier.

He pointed also to the 60th anniversary this year of the National Printing House, the first such entity ever on the island, founded on March 31st, 1961. He recalled that first title published by the prestigious institution was none other than Don Quixote by Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra --the second most-translated book in the world, after the Bible.
