Cuba's Havana Chamber Orchestra celebrates 15th anniversary

Havana, May 24 (RHC)-- The Havana Chamber Orchestra is these days celebrating its 15th anniversary.

An ensemble of young musician students and graduates of the Higher Institute of Art in Cuba, the orchestra made its debut in May 2006.

In its’ first years, the orchestra participated in the recording of the British rock band Simply Red’s DVD Cuba and in Clásicos de Cuba with Cesar Lopez and Habana Ensemble, winning Cubadisco’s grand prize in 2008. The Havana Chamber Orchestra also won the Cubadisco Prize for Chamber Music in 2013 for its CD of music entirely by Cuban composers, titled Música para Cuerdas.

Since 2011, the Havana Chamber Orchestra has been conducted by Daiana García. In the past six years they have been invited to participate in prestigious events such as the International Festival of Chamber Music Leo Brouwer, Havana Contemporary Music Festival, Jazz Plaza Festival, Casa de Las Américas Prize, and Havana International Guitar Festival, among others. At the fifth Chamber Music Festival Leo Brouwer, the Havana Chamber Orchestra received the Espiral Eterna Prize by the Leo Brouwer Office.

In statements to Cuban press, conductor Daiana García said that the Havana Chamber Orchestra celebrates its first fifteen years of foundation, reinventing itself every day, defending Cuban music at all costs and never leaving aside a good work project.

To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Havana Chamber Orchestra will give a pre-recorded concert in which the orchestra will accompany a lineup of renowned Cuban musicians, Duo Buena Fe, Luna Manzanares, Rochy Ameneiros, Haydee Milanés, David Blanco, Pepe Ordáz, Kelvis Ochoa, Aldo López Gavilán, Harold López Nussa, Alejandro Falcón, Niurka González, Duo Espiral.
