Havana, July 11 (RHC)-- Cuba’s jazz ensemble Rolando Luna Trio, led by pianist, composer and arranger Rolando Luna will delight French audiences with his art during the Jazz in Marciac Festival, set for July 24th through August 16th.

Taking place in Marciac, southwestern France, Jazz in Marciac Festival as the name suggests is a music festival whose primary focus is on Jazz.

First held in 1978, this year’s edition will include performances by such renowned bands as Kool & the Gang and Earth, Wind & Fire, as well as soloists Leee John, Kyle Eastwood, Brad Mehldau, Zucchero, Airelle Besson and Géraldine Laurent.

Past editions featured performances by Sting, Santana, Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Joe Cocker, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucía and B.B. King.

Due to the complex global epidemiological situation generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, this year, Jazz in Marciac becomes Jazz at Home by listening to the best of the festival on France Inter, France Musique, Mezzo and jazzinmarciac.com

The performance of Rolando Luna Trio & Guest is set for July 30th. The other members of the trio jazz ensemble are bassist Gastón Joya and drummer Rodney Barreto. Trumpet player Carlos Sarduy will also be featured as a guest artist.

In statements to the press, cultural promoter Carmen Mayans, recalled that Luna and Joya have just been awarded the Cubadisco Prize 2020-2021 for their album ‘Fusión de almas.’

She stressed that Rolando Luna’s participation in the prestigious Jazz in Marciac Festival is as part of activities aimed at boosting cultural ties between the Caribbean State and the European nation. Luna is considered one of the greatest Cuban pianists of his generation.

Other Cuban artists, who have been featured in past editions of Jazz in Marciac Festival include singer Omara Portuondo, pianists Chucho Valdés and Gonzalo Rubalcaba and the iconic Buena Vista Social Club band, among others.
