Septeto Santiaguero performs in United Arab Emirates
Dubai, Feb. 15 (RHC)-- Monday, February 14th was Cuba’s National Day at the World Expo in the United Arab Emirates, hosted by the stand of the Caribbean island state. Activities included the performance of Septeto Santiaguero at Millenium Amphitheatre in Dubai.
Arab nationals and representatives of participating foreign delegations danced to the rhythm of Cuban son in the unique style of the award-winning ensemble, led by tres guitar player Fernando Dewar.
Invited by the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Septeto Santiaguero delighted their audience with hits from their vast repertoire like “La meneadera”, “Amor Silvestre” and “La rumba está buena”, as well as emblematic pieces like ‘Chan-Chan’, popularized by its author, the late Francisco Repilado (Compay Segundo).
Based in eastern Santiago de Cuba, designated as Creative City of Music by UNESCO, Septeto Santiaguero, ambassadors of Cuban culture and traditions, celebrated its 27th anniversary on February 2nd past. It belongs to the Cuban Son catalogue of the Cuban Record and Musical Editions Company EGREM.
Along with several nominations, the orchestra won two Latin Grammy Awards, the first one in 2015 in the category of Best Tropical Album for their production “No quiero llanto-Tributo a los Compadres,” in collaboration with Dominican singer José Alberto --El Canario-- and then again in 2018, in the category of Best Traditional Music Album for their production ‘A mí qué’, released under EGREM label.
The current tour of Septeto Santiaguero includes performances in other Middle East countries like Egypt and Qatar.
The Cuban delegation at World Expo in Dubai, led by the country’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Rodrigo Malmierca, includes also authorities from the Cuban health and culture sectors.
