Cuba’s Cinematheque present at 14th Havana Biennial with emblematic film season

Havana, Feb.21 (RHC) -- The Cinematheque attached to the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) has prepared a season of emblematic films to be shown in the framework of the 14th Havana Biennial.

Entitled ‘Cintas al óleo por la Bienal de La Habana: arte y sociedad’ the initiative runs through February 28th at Havana’s movie theatre 23 y 12.

The first film that was screened was ‘Van Gogh: At Eternity's Gate’ from 2018. Directed by American filmmaker Julian Schnabel, it is a biographical drama film about the final years of painter Vincent van Gogh's life.’

The selected documentary and feature films deal with contemporary art, as well as biographies of notable artists like American musician, painter and poet Jean-Michel Basquiat and Italian baroque artist Artemisia Gentileschi.

Titles include ‘The Square’ by Ruben Östlund (2017); ‘Blurred Lines: Inside the Art World’ by Barry Avrich (2017); ‘Lightning lesson’ by Alejandro Lubezki (2007); ‘Never Look Away’ by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (2018); ‘La Belle Noiseuse’ by Jacques Rivette (1989).
