El Indio Naborí
Havana, Feb. 24 (RHC)— The 1st Ibero-American Congress on Decima and Improvised Verse will be held September 28th through the 30th in Cuba, as tribute to poet Jesús Orta Ruiz (El indio Naborí) on his 100th birthday anniversary.
In Spanish poetry, decima is a stanza or verse of ten lines, usually performed as a song. The song typically consists of four stanzas, with an introductory verse.
The director of the Ibero-American Center for Decima and Improvised Verse, Cuban poetic improviser Luis Paz explained that the Havana-based Acuario Marina Hemingway Hotel will host the event.
Paz confirmed the institution of the Ibero-American Decima Prize on Life’s Work, which in its first edition will be granted to poetic improvisers, instrumentalists, writers, researchers and performers, with an outstanding work promoting and defending decima and improvised verse, particularly among the new generations.
Likewise, the event’s program includes debate sessions, specialized workshops and work commissions focused on the history, evolution and development of the art form in Cuba and across the Ibero-American region.
The director of the ‘Indio Naborí’ Office for Cultural Promotion and Research Fidel Antonio Orta thanked the organizers for dedicating the event to his father, his vast legacy.
He said that artists, exponents of the art form, cultural promoters and researchers from several countries have already confirmed their participation, and mentioned Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Panama, Colombia and Spain.
