Havana, May 23 (RHC)-- The 28th edition of the Havana International Poetry Festival begins this Tuesday online and in person with a virtual poetry meeting.

The space that since 1996 annually brings together the culturists of that manifestation becomes a bridge of love and redemption between authors from Cuba and other latitudes, who invite to challenge the COVID-19 through their work.

The agenda of the event proposes the Meeting of Poets in Defense of Humanity that will exchange on the mission of poetry in the contemporary world, while Roberto Valera and Barbara Llanes will offer their talent in a unique concert.

It also includes book presentations, readings by Latin American poets and a tribute to Cuban authors Carilda Oliver Labra and Jesús Orta Ruíz, as well as to the volumes Tierra baldía, by T. S. Elliot and Trilce, by César Vallejo.

Organized by the CubaPoesía Cultural Center, the event is backed by the Ministry of Culture, the Cuban Book Institute, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, the Casa del Alba Cultural and the Ibero-American Center of the Decima and Improvised Verse.

It also has the support of the World Poetry Movement and the South Cultural Project, according to the website of the event that will take place in the Wonder City until May 28.

Chaired by writer Nancy Morejon, winner of the National Literature Award, the Festival will include the Writing Laboratory, while a space will be dedicated to dialogue on issues related to the environment and the need for humanity's commitment.
