International Museum Day
Havana, May 15 (RHC)--The Directorate of Patrimonial Goods organized in the Historic Center of this capital from today until May 20, a program dedicated to celebrate International Museum Day, celebrated every May 18.
The Office of the Historian of the City informed that this year, with the slogan Museums, Sustainability and Development, the celebration will focus on the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals, mainly those referring to Health and Well-being, Climate Action, Life in Terrestrial Ecosystems, Quality Education and Sustainable Cities and Communities.
The program of activities will include workshops with recycled materials, exhibitions, conferences, exchange of experiences, and other actions to highlight the role of museums as institutions at the service of society and its development.
There will also be a space dedicated to Cuban sculptor and ceramist Marta Arjona, a figure of undeniable importance for museums and heritage in Cuba, on the centenary of her birth. One of the most outstanding proposals is the Festival of the Courtyards in the Historic Center, which will highlight the importance of courtyards in museums and the integration of nature and ecological elements in museum environments.
The opening ceremony of the International Museum Day Week in Havana's Historic Center will take place in the famous Calle de Madera, one of the shortest streets in Cuba.
Then, in the Multipurpose Hall of the Museum of the City, there will be a discussion on the centenary of Marta Arjona.
Another attractive proposal will take place on May 16 with the cycling tour Havana Bay: Industrial and Archeological Heritage. Sustainability and Rehabilitation.
This initiative is supported by the international cooperation project Herifind, financed by the Basque Agency for Development Cooperation through the Tecnalia Foundation.
According to the program, there will be activities for children and adolescents such as those prepared at the Automobile Museum with the workshop Initiation to modeling of motor vehicles.
Another workshop for children will be held at the El Arca Puppet Theater Museum, focusing on the stop-motion animation The World in a Minute. (Source:PL)
