Havana, May 17 (RHC)-- Barbadian writer George Lamming's relations with Cuba's Casa de las Americas will be the focus of today's activities at the IX International Colloquium on Cultural Diversity in the Caribbean, held at the Cuban institution.

Lamming at Casa and A multidimensional thought: Lamming in and for the Caribbean, will be the two panels that will take place this day, as well as the inauguration of a bibliographic exhibition dedicated to the novelist and poet, in the Manuel Galich and reading rooms of the cultural center.

As part of the event, on Wednesday afternoon a workshop Matorral Vivo will be held for children from the "Carlos Hernández Fernández" elementary school, near Casa de las América.

Afterwards, there will be an exchange on Phenomena and environmental resources: testimony and resilience in and from the Caribbean; another presentation is entitled The water resource, part of the natural heritage of mankind in the ecopoetic discourse.

Regarding the central theme of the event, "Landscapes, rights of nature and ecopoetics in the Caribbean", there will also be a dialogue and testimonies about the earthquake in Haiti, about art, nature and environmental crisis in the region, among other points.

In addition, this Wednesday, at 4:30 p.m. local time, the book Baracoa: Raíces Vivas de la cocina cubana, by Javier Lafita Labacena, published by Editorial ArteChef of the Culinary Federation of Cuba and printed by Selvi Ediciones, will be presented.

Launched last Monday, the colloquium addresses various topics related to the importance of recognizing the environmental needs and challenges faced by the Caribbean and proposes areas for reflection on the paths of a regional ecological thinking as part of its culture. (Source:PL)
