Havana, June 5 (RHC)-- Cuban dancer Zeleidy Crespo won this Monday the National Dance Award 2023 of the United Kingdom, in the category Outstanding Female Performance in Modern Dance, for her participation in the show 100%Cubano.

The Acosta Danza group, directed by Carlos Acosta, presented this performance in the European nation in the first months of 2022, where Crespo performs as first figure.

For the current qualification, the shows and performances included in the period between January 1 and December 31, 2022 were taken into account.

In 2021, Acosta Danza was nominated and won as the best independent company, in the 21st edition of that country's National Dance Awards, an event organized by the Dance Section of the UK Critics Circle.

Born in the western province of Pinar del Rio, Crespo began her dance studies in 2001 at the local vocational school 'Raul Sanchez Garcia'.

Then, in 2003, she enrolled in the National School of Musical Shows, where she continued her dance studies, and graduated in 2006 as a dancer of Musical Shows.

Zeleidy began her professional career in the company directed by maestro Santiago Alfonso, a cast with which she participated in the plays Jazz, Obba Yuru, Maria Antonia, among others.

She reached the first level as a dancer, and performed on stages in Spain, France, Portugal and Russia.

In 2014 she became part of the Cuban Television Ballet, and toured internationally accompanying musical groups in Switzerland and Germany.

She also participated in nationally televised shows and in music videos of important figures of Cuban and Latin American music.

This award recognizes the work of Cuban artists for their constant participation in the British scene, a fact that consolidates Acosta Danza as one of the main ambassadors of Cuban culture on the international scene.
