Havana, July 7 (RHC)--Ballet Nacional de Cuba –the flagship dance Company of Cuba—began a new season of performances on July 7th at Havana’s Teatro Nacional, marking the Company’s 75th anniversary.

It includes two world premieres, the ballets Bartok Concerto and Britten pas de deux –both by British choreographer Ben Stevenson—Order of the British Empire.

Under the general direction of prima ballerina Viengsay Valdes, director of Ballet Nacional de Cuba, the season includes other emblematic pieces from the company’s vast repertoire over 75 years. These include the ballets Carmen, with choreography by Alberto Alonso, ‘Tarde en la siesta’, choreographed by Alberto Mendez, ‘End of Time’, also by Ben Stevenson, and ‘Spartacus’ by Azari Plisetsky.

In statements to the press, Stevenson pointed to his personal friendship with the founder of Ballet Nacional de Cuba, prima ballerina assoluta, the late Alicia Alonso, and pledged to continue his collaboration with the Cuban Ballet Company.
