Havana, August 5 (RHC) -- Actor Jorge Perugorría, who today enjoys a successful career in the seventh art, is being honored with the Honorary Lucia Award at the 17th Gibara International Film Festival, which takes place in that Cuban city.

The film event, which celebrates its 20th anniversary of being founded by the late filmmaker Humberto Solás, plans to end this edition on August 5 with the presentation of its highest award to the Cuban producer and director, who will head the event from 2016 to 2022.

Perugorría, who as of this year becomes its Honorary President, was a key figure in the relaunching and revival of the festival, significantly since 2019, during the health crisis associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.

With extraordinary acting talent, the artist stamped his name on the national and foreign scene after playing the young homosexual Diego in Tomás Gutiérrez Alea's film Strawberry and Chocolate.

It is evident, even to the most novice in terms of film appreciation, the masterful performance that reflects his face when he embraces his friend David (Vladimir Cruz), a scene that, according to experts, is an icon of Cuban cinema of all time.

The virtuoso is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Spain and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Hollywood, USA.

Among the awards in his portfolio are the best actor in the cities of Havana, Asuncion and Gramado for Strawberry and Chocolate (1993), which also earned him the award of the New York Show Business Writers.

He has also received recognition for his career and life's work from the Bogota and Latino festivals in Chicago.

As a filmmaker, Perugorría has made several films, including Afinidades, Amor Crónico, Se Vende and Fátima o el parque de la Fraternidad, while his love for painting led him to exhibit Si me pides el pesca'o te lo doy...in 2001, and to exhibit his work in Cuba, Spain, the United States and Italy.

Although he is talented in several art expressions, it is in the interpretation where his ability to move and enamor the spectator with a word, gesture or look emerges with greater success. (Source:PL)
