Lima, August 14 (RHC) -- The documentary "Deep Red", which received a thunderous and prolonged ovation after its premiere at the Lima Film Festival, is applying to the Havana Film Festival, according to director Magaly Zevallos.

The young filmmaker and journalist, who heads the Hiperactiva production company, told Prensa Latina that it would be an honor for the production to be screened at the Havana festival, which she has attended on three occasions during her visits to the Cuban capital.

It is, she added, one of the most important festivals in Latin America and "Rojo Profundo/Javier Diez Canseco, el Legado" deserves to be seen by the Cuban public, since Javier Diez Canseco is one of the young Peruvians who entered politics under the influence of the Cuban Revolution.

He highlighted the greatness of the Havana festival, which turns the whole island into a celebration of the seventh art and the great cinematographic culture of Cubans.

The production took Magaly Zevallos a long work started in 2019, compiling testimonies, documentation and photographic material, especially from the 1970s, when Diez Canseco insurges in politics.

The documentary is also a review of Peruvian political history since that time, of which the wife, colleagues and friends of the central character also speak, who also testify to the tenacity with which he was able to overcome a physical limitation.

They relate features, actions and anecdotes of the former leader of the Vanguardia Revolucionaria party and its developments, the Partido Unificado Mariateguista and the Partido Socialista.

It shows how Diez Canseco, like numerous young students of high socioeconomic levels, left the family mansions and the life of the wharf to live with the people and do activism in the mines of the inhospitable Andean peaks, in the factories and in the countryside.

There are also scenes of his struggle as a student leader and his unyielding fight against corruption and as a parliamentarian in defense of popular and national interests and human rights, for which, in the 90s, he suffered paramilitary attacks, which he escaped unscathed.
