Díaz-Canel congratulates Cuban poet Waldo Leyva on his 80th birthday

Havana, August 21 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated poet Waldo Leyva on his 80th birthday on Monday.

Through his profile on Ex, the president recalled that Leyva defined the Hero City like no one else, and described him as the poet who wherever he goes, carries the Homeland made verses.

"From Angola, which also inspired his poems, Lis and I send him the embrace of always," Diaz-Canel concluded in his message.

Waldo Leyva is a writer, journalist and poet. With his work El rumbo de los días he won in 2010 the X Premio Casa de América de Poesía Americana.

In 2012 he was awarded the International Poetry Prize 'Victor Valera Mora', from the Center for Latin American Studies 'Romulo Gallegos' (CELARG), Venezuela, for his anthology 'When the glass does not reproduce the face'.
