Tribute in Cuba to Cintio Vitier on International Translator's Day

Havana, September 26 (RHC) -- The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), paid tribute on Monday to storyteller, essayist and critic Cintio Vitier, on the 102nd anniversary of his birth, which also became the celebration of the International Translator's Day.

At the ceremony held at the organization's headquarters in Havana, Ana Elena de Arazoza, vice-president of Uneac's Literary Translation Section, highlighted the writer's constant link with the work of translators and his proposal to translate José Martí's complete works into other languages in order to spread his work and legacy.

As part of the celebration of the anniversary, on September 30, the book "Words are Bridges", by renowned literary translator Olga Sanchez, winner of the International Translators Federation Award, was presented, published by the José Martí publishing house, Uneac informed.

The volume distinguishes the role of these professionals in the dissemination of universal culture, as mediators of understanding and solidarity, to promote the development of knowledge among different societies.

"They are articles that I have been publishing in Revolución y Cultura, Cubaliteraria and in them I try to highlight the role of translation in the creation of bridges between cultures, people, and the role of the translator as a communicator," commented the author, according to the cultural organization.

At the meeting, the president of Uneac, Luis Morlote, highlighted the role of translators in society and said that the organization can promote spaces to exalt their work in the current Cuban context.   (Source: Prensa Latina).
