Arrecife Award at the Havana Film Festival

Havana, Dec 11 (ACN)-- Cuban film/documentary maker and musical programmer Lizette Vila Espina presides over the jury of the 44th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema tasked with granting the Arrecife Award.

Joining her are renowned figures of the Latin American seventh art such as Argentine film director and screenwriter Clarisa Navas and Uruguayan director and producer Cote Romero, who will decide which films best addressed diversity and LGBTIQ+ issues before they bestow an award that vindicates sexual rights as human rights for the sake of a community largely submerged and cast aside by most societies.

Ms. Vila remarked that Arrecife is a prize to dignity, freedom and social justice, the reason that she agreed to preside the jury. Likewise, she described working alongside Festival director Tania Delgado as “an honor, since it is the first time that a woman is in charge of the event, which is a sign of equality that distinguishes and gives value to such an award.
