Ballet Beyond Borders International Festival
Havana, Jan 4 (RHC) The dance scene in this capital will be dressed in luxury at the beginning of the year with the presentation of Ballet Beyond Borders HAVANA 2024, from January 9 to 13, an international festival that promotes cultural, educational and theoretical exchange in the world today.
The Cuban capital will host the Ballet Beyond Borders (BBB) show, a renowned dance competition to promote human understanding and generate vital communication between all participants.
The event - created by Charlene Carey, founder of Rocky Mountain Ballet Theatre - and co-sponsored by Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba, as well as the local development project LADC+, includes a "Dance Challenge", according to the Cubaescena website.
This is a competition for professional and amateur dancers, divided into the categories of ballet, contemporary/modern, young choreographer (up to 30 years old) and an open section including hip hop, flamenco, ballroom, tap and all forms of ethnic-cultural dance.
The programme also includes master classes, workshops, documentary screenings and a final awards gala, as well as a grand closing ceremony with the participation of guest dancers.
So far, teachers, dancers, choreographers and contestants will arrive in Cuba from: United States, Canada, Russia, Mexico, Panama, Brazil, as well as from Romania, Italy, United Kingdom, South Africa, Pakistan, China and Belgium. Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba, the Martí Theatre, the Amphitheatre of the Historic Centre of Old Havana and Malecón ART 255 were announced as venues for the event, the website said.
The main theme of this year's festival is "BBB en el Barrio", an opportunity for participants to experience Havana, not as tourists, but as members of the community, engaging with its people, traditions and everyday Cuban life.
This theme is in keeping with the festival's concept of celebrating diversity, cultures and the universal language of dance. Ballet Beyond Borders HAVANA 2024 is supported by the Office of the Historian of the City, plus other Cuban institutions as hosts. (Source: PL)
