Havana, February 8 (RHC) -- Cuban singer-songwriter Eduardo Sosa remains in critical condition, with a reserved prognosis, and with no changes in his neurological condition, the Antonio Agostinho Neto General Teaching Hospital in the eastern province of Guantánamo reported on Saturday.

According to the latest report at 10:00 a.m. local time from that medical institution, the 52-year-old patient remains under artificial ventilation and the same complications of respiratory infection and kidney failure, under medical treatment.

The Cuban Institute of Music announced that on the afternoon of February 3, Sosa suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, after his participation in the Guantánamo-Baracoa Theater Crusade.

He was immediately treated by the Guantanamo Hospital neurosurgery service and the decision was made to perform surgery. The operation, which took place on Tuesday morning, was successful.

On social networks and in Cuban media, there are many comments of encouragement and solidarity towards the beloved artist, born in the province of Santiago de Cuba.

For his work and defense of the Cuban Revolution through art, Sosa was elected deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power in its current legislature, and more recently selected vice president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.

Born on April 18, 1972, Sosa won the admiration and affection of the public for his simplicity, charisma, and the richness of his voice.

His song “A mí me gusta, compay”, one of the most requested at each concert, is a reflection of his personality, attached to his roots in Santiago, to the most traditional of Cuban music.

Although he has spent his last years in Havana, he remains a great defender of troubadour rhythms, to the point of being one of the main promoters of the Pepe Sánchez Trova Festival in his native province.
