Hollywood, March 3 (RHC)--- At the 97th Annual Academy Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles, "No Other Land: won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
"No Other Land" directors took to the stage to accept their award and denounced ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. Director Basel Adra spoke first, as he accepted the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
“ About two months ago, I became a father, and my hope to my daughter that she will not have to live the same life I’m living now — always fearing settler violence, home demolitions and forcible displacements that my community Masafer Yatta is living and facing every day under Israeli occupation,” Adra said.
“No Other Land reflects the harsh reality that we have been enduring for decades,” he continued. “We call on the world to take serious actions to stop the injustice and stop the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.”
Yuval Abraham then took the microphone, to urge understanding between Israelis and Palestinians.
“We made this film, Palestinians and Israelis, because together our voices are stronger. We see each other: The atrocious destruction of Gaza and its people which must end.” Abraham said.
He also offered a brief critique of Washington’s unwavering support of Israel, despite widespread concerns about human rights abuses.
“The foreign policy in this country is helping to block this path,” Abraham added, to applause. “Can’t you see that we’re intertwined that my people can be truly safe if Basel’s people are truly free and safe? There is another way. It’s not too late for life for the living. There is no other way.”
