Winning debut with a no-hitter for Cuban softball

Havana, July 26 (RHC) – Cuban men´s softball team made its debut this Thursday against Peru in the 18th Pan-American Games with a crushing victory over the locals.

Only 4 innings were enough for the Cubans to beat Peru 15-0 in a match in which Cuban All-Star Alain Roman threw a no-hitter and earned his first win in the Championship and was one walk away from scoring a perfect game.

The Cuban offense started in the very first inning with four runs, when Peruvian starter Eyser Mujica missed with a ball at the heart of the plate that Juan Carlos Hernandez turned into a triple, Yuri Rodriguez got hit by a pitch, Yesander Rodriguez brought one home with a sacrifice fly into the outfield and Roger Rossette connected a 2-rbi single.

Cuban manager Leonardo Cardenas announced Roman as starting pitcher for Cuba´s next match on Saturday, when they will face the United States. At the same time, the Cuban manager praised the quality of the participating team and confirmed his aspirations of winning a medal of in the Pan-Am event.
