Lima, July 29 (RHC) - Cuba won a silver medal this Sunday in the 500 meters K4, during the canoeing competition of the Pan-Am Games Lima 2019, a competition that is been held on Lake Albufera Medio Mundo, in Huacho, about a 4-hour drive from the Peruvian capital. The Cuban Kayak foursome, made up by Fidel Vargas, Reinier Carrera, Reinier Mora and Robert Benitez, finished second with a time of 1 minute and 23 seconds, just one second after the Argentinian boat.
On the same day of competitions, Flavia Lopez finished 4th with a time of 44.823 seconds in series 2 of the 200 meters singles kayak K1 and earned herself a spot in the Semi-Finals, in a race that was entirely dominated by Mexican Beatriz Briones, in 41.993 seconds.
The Cuban, Lopez, finished 4th in the Semi-Finals as well by improving her latest time with 43.121, a time that allows her take part in the event´s Finals. Reinier Mora stopped the clock at 38.578 seconds to finish 4th in the men´s 200 meters K1, while Ecuadorian Cesar de Cesare recorded 31.983 to win the heat. Later, Mora led the Semi-Finals with 37.516 and advanced to the Finals.
Mayvihanet Borges finished second, with 46.361 seconds, behind American Nevin Harrison (45.821), and with that result she qualified directly to the Finals of the 200 meters singles canoe C1. In the women´s K4, Cubans Camila Cuello, Flavia Lopez, Yurielky Montesino and Yurisledy Muñoz finished 7th, while Canada won the gold medal. Serguey Torres and Fernando Dayan Jorge won the gold medal in the 2000 meters doubles canoe with a time of 3 minutes and 32 seconds.
This Monday, all qualified Cubans will be looking for medals as this sport continues its schedule in the Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games.
