Havana, August 26 (RHC) – Roberlany Simon made a return to remember to the Cuban National Volleyball team, as guided his team towards the title in the NORCECA Champions Cup, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States. Simon was the competition´s best player in Blocks and the MVP.
32-year old, 6-foot 7, was a key player in Cuba´s undefeated victory in the American tournament, after beating Canada (3-2), United States (3-1) and Puerto Rico (3-0). He scored a total of 38 points in three games, 9 of them were Blocks.
``I´m super happy of returning to the team, thrilled with the boys and willing to make history. I hope I can make it´´. Said Simon to Radio Havana Cuba, while talking about the odds of qualifying to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics in the upcoming Pre-Olympics tournament next January.
Simon, runner-up with Cuba in the World Championship in 2010, was readmitted in the team by the Cuban Volleyball Federation in July, about a month after him, Michael ``the Russian´´ Sanchez and Raydel Hierrezuelo formally applied for returning.
Apart from Simon, four other Cuban players made the All-Star team of the NORCECA Champions Cup in Colorado Springs: Jesus Herrera, Adrian Goide, Yonder Gancia and Osniel Melgarejo.
