Cuban GM Lázaro Bruzón, currently ranked 70th in the world rankings, won for best playoff system the 2014 Open Chess Tournament of Mexico, which concluded on Sunday at the Tabasco Gallerias 2000 Convention Center.
The Caribbean, considered the 2nd best Cuban player and the 3rd of Latin-America, shared 1st place with 5 other players, all with 7 points, but after applying the tiebreaker system he deserved the title.
The also Cubans, IM Antonio Carlos Hevia, GM Yuri González and IM Diasmani Otero, and GMs Barthelemy Macieja, from Poland, and Peruvian Emilio Córdova, finished from the 2nd to 6th places, in that order.

Cuban featherweight Javier Ibáñez unanimously won the Algerian Tamma Salem during the 5th day of the AIBA World Youth Boxing Championship, which runs until next Thursday at the Armeec Arena in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria.

And as for boxing, teams from Cuba and Russia will encourage the semifinals of the IV World Series Boxing AIBA (WSB) next Thursday, which will be played at least 10 “piéce de resistance” on the ring, and will also reward both the best team and the best strategies developed by the technical bodies.

Judo
The last update of the world rankings, just hours before of the Pan-American Judo Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador, from April 26th to 28th, has ratified Cubans Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg) and Asley González (90 kg) on top of their respective divisions.
Cuba recently ranked all its judokas for the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games and prepares to host the Grand Prix from June 6th to 8th in Havana, first qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
Baseball
Cuban baseball will resume its presence in Japan's Baseball Major League (NPB, for its acronym in English), after the ballplayer Frederich Cepeda signed a contract with the Yomiuri Giants team, said the leader of Cuban baseball, Higinio Vélez.
The note from the Cuban Baseball Federation, and published by the JIT digital site, reports that the deal is part of an agreement between the organization headed by Higinio Vélez, and the Japanese cast represented in the signature by Mr. Atsuhi Harasawa, its CEO, which opens a wide range of future collaboration.
