Jun 9, -- The Cuba Domadores semi-pro boxing team won the title in their debut season of the World Series of Boxing, that concluded on Saturday, with a razor thin 6-5 victory over the Azerbaijan Baku Fires.
The first leg of the WSB finals took place on Friday with the Cubans winning three of the five bouts.
Saturday saw the tables reversed and Azerbaijan won three fights to tie the series at 5-5, paving the way for a tie-breaker bout between welterweights Azerbaijan’s Yauhemi Ramashkevich and Cuba’s Arisnoydis Despaigne.
The tournament was the first time that Cuban boxers fought semi-pro and without the familiar amateur boxing head gear.
To make it to the finals, the Cubans defeated the USA Knockouts in the quarterfinals and the tough Russian team in the semifinals.
