German tennis player Zverev seeks US Open semifinals

Havana, September 8 (RHC)-- German tennis player Alexander Zverev faces today the challenge of South African Lloyd Harris to reach the semifinals of the U.S. Open, the last Grand Slam of the season.

Zverev, 24 years old and Olympic starter in Tokyo 2020, enters the duel after defeating 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) the young Italian Jannik Sinner, ranked 16th in the world.

This was Zverev's 15th unbeaten win over Sinner in his career. Now, against Harris, the German racquetball player will fight to secure his third unbeaten match between the two, following his 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 triumphs in 2020 and at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 in 2021 with 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 scores.

However, fans expect Zverev to contest one of the semifinals against world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who the day before recovered from a shaky 1-6 start to beat local Jenson Broksby 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

However, first Djokovic will have to overcome the obstacle of Italian Matteo Berretini, eighth in the world ranking.

In the most recent meeting between Zverev and Djokovic, played in the run-up to the title match at the Tokyo Olympics, the German emerged victorious.

That match against Novak gave me a lot. To come back like that and win against the world number one, it gave me a boost to strengthen my game,' Zverev told the press a few hours ago.
