Rio de Janeiro, September 11 (RHC)-- Former Brazilian soccer star Romario, world champion in 1994, underwent emergency surgery to remove his gall bladder at a hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Agencia Brasil reported.
The procedure took place without complications and Romario is under observation and should be discharged in the next few days, said the 55-year-old senator's aide, quoted by the news media.
After an outstanding career as a sportsman, the former striker dedicated himself to politics and was elected deputy in 2010 for the Brazilian Socialist Party, and senator four years later.
