Cycling world mourns the death of Chris Anker Sorensen

Brussels, September 19 (RHC/EFE)-- The cycling world mourns the death of Danish Chris Anker Sorensen, Alberto Contador's former teammate at Saxo Bank, who died yesterday after being run over at the age of 37 while cycling in Belgium, where he was a commentator for Danish TV 2 Sport for the cycling world championships.

The accident occurred in the town of Zeebrugge, on the outskirts of the Belgian city of Bruges, and it was his colleagues on Danish television who reported Sorensen's death.

Contador also wanted to pay tribute to his teammate today, in a message on his Twitter account.
"How unfair life can be!  My sincere condolences to family and friends.  RIP Chris," said the Madrid cyclist.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) also showed its condolences to the family and friends at the "tragic loss" of Sorensen.

The Dane left cycling in 2018, after a thirteen-year career in which his main victory was the one achieved in the eighth stage of the 2010 Giro.

In addition to the Giro d'Italia, Sorensen also raced La Vuelta a España and the Tour de France in the ranks of the current Tinkoff-Saxo and won stages of the Dauphiné.

In 2015, he was proclaimed champion Denmark.
