Cuban Sports Research Center's Anniversary Ceremony

Havana, October 1 (RHC/JIT)-- The Cuban Sports Research Center (CIDC) celebrated its fifth anniversary in a ceremony where five founders were recognized and attended by sports stars such as Mijaín López.

The institution was inaugurated on September 21, 2016 by now Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and by the then head of the Cuban Olympic Committee (COC), José Ramón Fernández Álvarez.

The celebration ceremony was attended by Osvaldo Vento, head of Inder; Elba Rosa Pérez, Minister of Science and Environment, and other executives.

Japan's ambassador to Cuba, Hirata Kenji, and Cuban sports legends such as four-time Olympic champion Mijaín López and Tokyo 2020 winners Luis Orta (wrestling) and Serguei Torres (canoeing) presided over the ceremony.

"The application of science and technology, and the generation of new knowledge for the solution of problems related to sport and physical culture, have sustained Cuba's important and historic results in high performance, physical education, physical activity and recreation," said Vento Montiller.    

At the ceremony, five founders of the Center received awards, namely its first director René Jorge Romero Esquivel; secretaries Beatriz González Ortega and Dianelys Samalea Abreu; and researchers Dr. C. Liliana del Monte and Dr. C. Beatriz Sánchez Córdoba. Elba Rosa Pérez and Grisel Reyes, Vice Minister of Communications, together with Orta, presented the recognition plaques.

The work of several work areas was also recognized with the ICDC's 5th Anniversary trophy, among them biomechanics, observatory, training sciences and economics. In addition, outstanding workers in this 2021 and the journalist Glenda Torres were also recognized.

The National Committee of the Young Communist League awarded the Youth for Life Distinction to outstanding workers in the fight against covid-19.

As part of the day, the postal cancellation of the issue put into circulation in 2016, dedicated to the XXXI Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro, took place. To celebrate the anniversary, five stamps were also cancelled, with images of different sports, in whose results the actions of this institution had a significant impact.

González Orberá gave the institution the Seal for the Paths of Triumph for the perseverance, effort and results that have marked the trajectory of the ICDC, which also received the commemorative 60th Anniversary of the Inder from the hands of Vento Montiller.

A tour of the place allowed the Japanese ambassador to know the value of the support of his nation to the Center, which deserved the public recognition of the head of Inder.
