Basketball
The Cuban men's basketball team reached its 2nd victory at the Caribbean Basketball Tournament currently underway in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, after winning 86-58 to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, in defiance for Group A, having debuted yesterday with victory of 82-56 over Antigua.
Cubans dominated the 4 sets with partials of 18-14, 22-17, 22-17 and 24-10, where the captain William Granda with 19 points, the veteran Yoan Luis Haiti with 16, and the young Jaciel Rivero with 13, commanded the Cuban offensive in a clash where the technician Daniel Scott used the 12 players that make up the Cuban staff.
Moreover, in Group B, U.S. Virgin Islands also joined their 2nd win to dispose of Guyana by 95-75.
Today, Thursday, concludes the knockout stage and Cubans face Bahamas. This Fair awarded 3 berths to the Centrobasket Tournament next August, in the Mexican city of Nayarit.
Athletics
The short hurdler Yordan O'Farrill, the triple jumper Mabel Gay and discus thrower Jorge Fernández will represent Cuba tomorrow Friday at the 2014 Athletissima Meeting, in Lausanne, Switzerland, 7th stage of the Diamond League.
O'Farrill, who finished 2nd at the Pro Athle Tour in France, with a time of 13.24 meters a week ago, should be among the finalists in the 110 meter hurdles, facing French Pascal Martinot-Lagarde, an international star who shows a personal record 13.12 this year.
Meanwhile, Mabel Gay, who has shown a lot of stability this year up to getting 14.42 meters, will rival the current triple jump leader, Colombian Caterine Ibarguen, who has 14.99 meters.
School Sport Games
The inauguration of the 50th edition of the National School Sport Games and the Youth Olympic Games, scheduled from the 6th through the 23rd of this month, will kick off on Sunday at the Ciudad Deportiva Sport Coliseum in Havana, which will be rounded off by a concert of renowned singer Leoni Torres.
