Mijaín López receives award at Acno Assembly in Greece
Havana, October 29 (RHC/JIT)-- Four-time Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Mijaín López Núñez, returned to Cuba after being awarded for his outstanding performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, during the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
Upon his arrival in Havana, the Cuban sports star offered brief statements to the press.
"The recognition was something special, a way of rewarding all the work one has done throughout his sports career. Proud to have been awarded in the land of Olympism, where the modern Olympic Games began," Mijaín, a four-time Olympic champion, told the digital newspaper Jit Mijaín.
"I am happy to return to my homeland, happy to be with my people. Proud to be Cuban, worthy of this Revolution, and we will continue together with all Cubans worthy of this people," he said.
On the Greek island of Crete, Mijaín received the Outstanding Athlete Performance Award, one of the 15 awards given by ANOC to the most outstanding athletes of Tokyo-2020.
The Assembly was also attended on behalf of Cuba by the president of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Roberto Leon Richards, and the secretary general of that entity, Ruperto Herrera.
