Cuba's Leuris Pupo is in ninth place in the opening round of the 25-meter rapid fire pistol during the President's Rifle and Pistol Cup in Wroclaw, Poland.

Havana, November 8 (RHC/JIT)-- Cuba's Leuris Pupo is in ninth place in the opening round of the 25-meter rapid fire pistol during the President's Rifle and Pistol Cup in Wroclaw, Poland.

The Cuban completed 287 units in the three initial series of shots (97, 94 and 96), which put him ahead of two of the 11 contestants in the competition.

Leading this first day were Germany's Christian Reitz (296), China's Yuehong Li (294), France's Clement Bessaguet (293) and Estonia's Peeter Olesk (293).

Pupo finished eighth on the opening day of this event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, but the next day he made it through to the final with a total of 583 units and then won the silver medal.

Something like that will have to happen now to see him on the podium of the prestigious Polish event that brings together the best in rifle and pistol.

The Olympic event was dominated by Frenchman Jean Quiquampoix, who finished fifth on Sunday with 292 points.

On Monday, in the second round of the event (series of shots in 4 and 6 seconds), Pupo will be in the first group together with the Peruvian Marko Carrillo, the Korean Daeyoon Han and the German Oliver Geis.
