Havana, November 10 (RHC)-- Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr (Toronto Blue Jays) won the first Hank Aaron Award of his career, to become the youngest baseball player to win the distinction instituted in 1999 to recognize the best offensive players in each Major League Baseball (MLB) circuit.
Guerrero Jr. (22 years old) won the award in the American League, while Bryce Harper (Philadelphia Phillies) earned the same distinction in the National League.
The Dominican, who batted for 311 on the season and was the leader in home runs (48), with 111 RBIs, surpassed Aaron Judge, Cedric Mullins, Shohei Ohtani, Matt Olson, Salvador Perez and José Ramírez, the other finalists for the American League, in the voting for the award.
For Vlady, it was his first award for his phenomenal MLB season.
The Toronto starter is also nominated for the Silver Slugger as a first baseman and the American League MVP award, along with Shohei Ohtani and teammate Marcus Semien.
Although the Hank Aaron was his first award in the MLB season, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has already won another award for his remarkable campaign, being distinguished with the Juan Marichal Award, instituted in 2021 to choose the best Dominican baseball player of the year in the Major Leagues of the United States.
