Cali, Colombia, December 4 (Prensa Latina)--The early morning triumph of Yaritza Martinez in the women's hammer throw today brought about a golden embrace between Cuba and Brazil in the athletics tournament of the I Pan American Junior Games Cali-Valle 2021.

Martinez added the eighth gold medal for Cuba in the athletic contest, the same number as Brazil, although the latter leads the general table for the greater number of silver and bronze medals: 11 and seven, respectively, by 5-2 the Antilleans.

The new champion dominated the event without difficulty, throwing the implement to 67.47 meters, well ahead of the 65.63 obtained by the Venezuelan Silennis Vargas. Third place in the competition went to Chile's Mariana de Jesús García (64.86).

With respect to the previous day, the intensity will decrease this Saturday in the athletics competition program in Cali-Valle 2021, since only nine finals will be disputed.

The girls will be protagonists in three of these: the already decided hammer throw, the three thousand meters with hurdles and the mixed 4×400 meters relay.

The men will go after the titles in the pole vault, discus throw, 110 meters hurdles, 800m and 3,000m hurdles, in the triple jump and also in the mixed long relay.

After Brazil and Cuba in the general athletics medal list of the First Junior Pan American Games, Ecuador is in second place with seven gold medals, one silver and one bronze, followed by Mexico (4-2-2).
