Fourth victory for Cuban Jasiel Rivero and his club in the Eurocup basketball tournament

Havana, December 8 (RHC)-- Cuban Jasiel Rivero and his club Valencia Basket, from Spain, achieved their fourth victory in the Eurocup basketball tournament, a tournament that in terms of quality is only behind the Euroleague in the Old Continent.

As visitors, the Valencians defeated the Italian team Reyer Venezia 81-67, in the Palasport Giuseppe Taliercio court, in a game that they dominated from the first quarter with a wide advantage of 27-16; while in the second half the locals won by the minimum 16-15.

At the end of the first half the Taronja team was ahead in the scoreboard with a score of 42-32; and in the third quarter they increased the income with a success of 20-15; while in the last segment they fell 19-20, but without risking the victory.

For the winners, Klemen Prepelic, with 17 points, and Mike Tobey (16) were outstanding on offense; and for the hosts, Martynas Echodas (16) and Jeff Brooks (11) stood out.

Rivero played just over five minutes, scoring one goal and grabbing two rebounds.

Turning to the collective statistics, Valencia Basket was superior in all departments, including shooting from the field with an effectiveness of 53.6 percent, product of 30 baskets in 56 attempts; by 40.7 % (24/59) of their rivals.

In addition, from the three-point line the Spanish club made 36.0 percent (9/25), and Reyer Venecia a very discreet 12.0 percent, with only three three-pointers in 25 opportunities, according to the official site of the tournament.

As for free throws, both teams were ineffective with 62.5 % (10/16) for the visitors and 56.0 % (14/25) for the home team; while under the boards the Valencians grabbed 37 rebounds to only 22 for their opponents.

With this result, Valencia Basket, which with four titles is the team with the most trophies in this competition, accumulates four wins and two setbacks to climb to third place in Group B, awaiting what Gran Canaria, from Spain, and Buducnost Voli, from Montenegro, both with a 4-1 balance, will do.
