Argentina and Italy to stage soccer final in 2022

Havana, December 16 (RHC)-- Argentina and Italy, continental champions, will star in a so-called soccer final in 2022, following the extension of the Memorandum of Understanding between the South American Confederation (Conmebol) and the Union of European Associations (UEFA).

Staged in London, the Argentine team, holders of the Copa America 2021, and the Italian team, winners of Euro 2020, will play the match on Wednesday, June 1 next year, as the first step of a joint cooperation between Conmebol and UEFA until 2028.

The president of the South American entity, Alejandro Domínguez, assured that other top-level sporting events will be added to this match, thus laying the foundations for the growth and development of bilateral collaboration.

For his part, the head of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, described it as a source of great pride to relaunch "such a prestigious competition of national teams for the delight of soccer lovers, as an expression of a tradition that over the years has included the Artemio Franchi Trophy and the Intercontinental Cup".

The confrontation will be preceded by the opening in early 2022 of a shared office in London that will allow, according to Conmebol's top executive, "to face with agility and vigor new projects for the benefit of millions of fans in our continents and in the rest of the world".

The extension of the agreement, which began in February 2020, demonstrates the interest of Conmebol and UEFA in working together to promote soccer and its impact on society.
