Havana, December 19 (RHC)-- The Spanish club Valencia Basket, where Cuban Jasiel Rivero plays, returns this weekend to the Endesa League, when it hosts Rio Breogan this Sunday, in a match corresponding to the 14th round of the Iberian competition.
After almost four weeks without playing in the League, due to the World Cup qualifying dates and a subsequent outbreak of Covid-19, which affected several players in the squad, the team coached by Joan Peñarroya returns to the La Fonteta Pavilion.
The Taronja team, which is seventh in the standings with seven wins and five losses, played its last home league game on November 20 against Bilbao Basket, a game which they won 100-84.
As hosts, Peñarroya's students have a 3-3 record so far this season, with successes against Andorra, Badalona, and the aforementioned against Bilbao.
Sunday's opponent, Rio Breogan, is tenth in the standings at 6-6, with a game pending against Joventud Badalona, which they plan to make up on December 30.
The 28-year-old Rivero, who made his debut with Valencia in the current campaign, has been present in the team's last nine games, as an injury prevented him from making his debut until the fourth game of the season.
Since then, the 2.06 power forward, who wears the dorsal number 41, has averaged just over 20 minutes of play and has accumulated 90 points.
His best performance is in field goals, with 33 baskets, converted in 56 attempts for a 58.9 percent efficiency, while he has only made two three-pointers out of a possible nine, and has scored 18 free throws, in 31 attempts for a 58.1 percent.
After the Sunday challenge, Valencia will remain at home to host Olimpija of Slovenia on Tuesday 21, in the Eurocup, and two days later Monbus Obradoiro in Liga, a duel that was postponed because of the Covid-19 on the 13th.
The year in the domestic competition will close for the taronjas visiting Lenovo Tenerife, on December 29 for the 15th date.
