Cuban Cecilia Diaz runner-up at the Serbian Cup of Water Polo
Havana, December 29 (RHC)-- The Red Star Belgrade Club, where Cuban Cecilia Diaz Mesa shines, was runner-up in the Serbian Cup of Water Polo, in the usual duel of titans against Vojvodina.
The game ended 18-11, with partial scores of 3-2, 4-3, 5-3 and 6-3, according to the official website of the Red Star.
Although the Villaclareña did not score in the game, she was key for the Red and White to reach the final, in fact, this is the first game where the Cuban did not score in the season.
Vojvodina is the only team to have beaten the Belgrade side, with victories in the Serbian and Danubian leagues and two wins in the Balkan country's Cup.
During the last meeting, once again Vojvodina took advantage of the start to take the lead and, although the red-and-whites came back and then there were several ties, spurts of quick goals decided the match.
Thus, the rivals won for the second time in a row a title that Red Star won seven times from 2014 to 2020.
Both teams, along with two others, are competing for the Serbian First League A title until next March, a tournament in which they are the clear favorites for the title, while in the Danube League Red Star is in second place and Vojvodina in third.
The performance of Cecilia Diaz with the national team of Belgrade, with a sustained performance in the offense, has been the most relevant aspect of water polo in Cuba in 2021.
