Havana, February 5 (RHC)-- With a winning streak of two successive victories, the Mayabeque national team will open today against Holguin its leadership in the 61st edition of the National Series, the main baseball classic in Cuba.

The Hurricanes director Michael Gonzalez will arrive at the Calixto Garcia stadium of the "City of Parks" in the lead with a record of six wins and only one setback, with a half-game advantage over Santiago de Cuba (6-2) and Matanzas (6-2), second and third, respectively.

For the first challenge against Holguineros, the Mayabeque high command announced the right-hander Yadián Martínez, who has two scoreless starts in 12 innings of work, with eight clean runs allowed, seven tickets and three strikeouts.

Mayabeque is showing smiles at the start of the season in the private games against Villa Clara (2-0), Sancti Spiritus (2-0) and Ciego de Avila (2-1) and starts in Holguin a tour away from home that will take them next week to the champions of Granma.

On the other side, Holguin appears at the bottom of the table with two smiles in eight games and will return home after losing the previous series against Industriales (2-1).

The fourth sub-series of the current baseball campaign will feature Sancti Spíritus (2-5) against Industriales (4-3), Ciego de Ávila (5-3) against Isla de la Juventud (5-3), Camagüey (1-7) against Pinar del Río (5-3) and Las Tunas (3-5) versus Artemisa (3-4).

Completing this Saturday's game program are the clashes Santiago de Cuba-Cienfuegos (4-4) and Guantanamo (2-6)-Villa Clara (4-3), as the reigning monarch Granma (4-5) and runner-up Matanzas will make up for the break of the opening game and return to action tomorrow at the Barbados Martyrs.
