Osmel Rivera and Yoan Perez

Havana, August 5 (JIT) - The Cuban squad competing in the Davis Cup Rakuten 2022 lost its undefeated record against its Aruban counterpart.

The first Cuban racket, Osmel Rivera, had no problems to beat his rival Frederick Sydow in two sets, but then his teammate, Osviel Turino lost to Patrick Sydow and in the doubles match Osmel Rivera and Yoan Perez, undefeated to date, fell to the Sydow brothers (Frederick and Patrick) 7-5 and 6-4.

With this defeat, the Cubans lost the leadership of group B in zone four of the Americas to Aruba, although they still have options to qualify for the playoffs and get the promotion to the next level.

Cuba has a respectable record in these competitions in which it will soon celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Cuba's best placement was achieved in 1993 when they managed to compete at the highest level of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament for national teams in tennis.
