Havana, August 6 (RHC)-- Cuba's women's baseball team, which will take part in the pre-World Baseball Championship, was presented with the national flag Friday afternoon at the Latin American Stadium in the capital.

Among the personalities who presided over the ceremony were Juan Reynaldo Pérez Pardo, President of the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation, and Osvaldo Vento Montiller, President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER).

During the ceremony, the athletes handed a book with their signature and commitment during the competition to the highest representative of INDER, and received the glorious national ensign, which was carried by the captain of the squad, Dayana Batista, who graciously offered statements to Radio Habana Cuba about this responsibility and competitive aspirations:

"I feel happy to be the standard bearer and captain of the national team. In the years that I have been in the national team, this is the most compact team; we are eager to qualify and win a medal," she said.

For her part, Vento expressed to the athletes: "We are very proud of this team and of Cuban women"; while the maximum leader of women's baseball in Cuba, Margarita Malleta, affirmed:  "We are going to look for the qualification and, after we are within the four, to look for a medal; but the first medal that has to come here is the medal of dignity".

Those present were delighted with the beautiful voice of singer Annie Garcés as a cultural highlight of the afternoon.

The pre-World Cup tournament will take place from August 12 to 21 in La Guaira, Venezuela.  vA round-robin tournament will be played, where the first four places will advance to the semifinals (first vs. fourth, and second vs. third) and the winners will play for the title. The event will grant four tickets for the 2023 universal competition, which has yet to define its official schedule.
