Villa Clara and Guantanamo with five successes in the Under-23 Baseball Championship

Havana, August 10 (RHC)-- The teams of Villa Clara and Guantanamo reached five victories in the VII National Under-23 Baseball Series, which began the third sub-series of the calendar.

The sugar bowlers defeated Matanzas 7x3 at the Augusto César Sandino stadium, thanks to timely offense and good pitching by left-hander Oscar Hernández (2-0).

For the orange team, Cristian Rodríguez (4-2), Ariel Díaz (4-2) and Mailon Alonso (4-3), the latter with three RBIs.

The starting pitcher walked six innings with three clean runs allowed, eight hits, six strikeouts and two walks. The seventh inning was pitched by Adrián Fleites without major complications. The loss went to Denis Quesada.

The Villaclareños now dominate the B key with a 5-1 balance, ahead of Mayabeque (3-2), Matanzas (1-3) and Cienfuegos (0-3).

The other game of the day corresponding to this grouping, between Mayabequenses and Cienfuegos, was sealed in the second chapter due to rain at Nelson Fernandez Park in San Jose de las Lajas.

Meanwhile, the Indios del Guaso took another important step by defeating the Cachorros de Holguín 5x1 at the Nguyen Van Troi Stadium.

The easternmost team had left-hander Enyer Fernandez, who worked the entire game with only two hits, one clean run, eight strikeouts and one walk.

The only score for the Holguineros was Luis Santiesteban's home run in the seventh and last chapter of the game.

For the Guantanameros, Niorlis Núñez, author of a home run and two hits in total, as well as Yoandri Guibert, 2-1 with a pair of runs batted in, stood out for the Guantanameros.

The Indians lead group D with 5-1 ahead of Holguín (3-3), Santiago de Cuba (2-3) and Granma (1-4). The latter two teams were supposed to play each other, but transportation difficulties prevented them from doing so. They must play a double game this Wednesday.

In section A, Artemisa beat Isla de la Juventud 9x7 at the Cristóbal Labra stadium and Havana beat Pinar del Río 5x2 at the Latinoamericano. The latter two teams lead with a 4-2 balance.

In segment C, Las Tunas defeated Camagüey 6x3 at the Julio Antonio Mella stadium and Sancti Spíritus defeated Ciego de Ávila 2x0 at the José Ramón Cepero stadium. The Tuneros are in the lead with a 4-2 balance.

On Tuesday, 16 errors were committed, three home runs were hit, one game, the one between Artemisa and Isla de la Juventud, lasted four hours (3:34:00); and there were two ejections, both coaches.
