Havana, August 14 (RHC)-- The Cuban men's team will face Canada today in the final of the Pan American Volleyball Cup, to be held in the city of Gatineau, in the Canadian province of Quebec.

Although a good level match is expected, the Cubans, the only undefeated team of the tournament without a set against them, will be the favorites to win the crown.

The largest of the Antilles advanced to the discussion of the gold medal by defeating Chile 3-0 (25-16, 25-20 and 25-21) the day before, while the Canadians overcame the United States 3-2 (22-25, 21-25, 29-27, 25-23 and 15-12) in a tight and exhausting match.

The Caribbeans reached the semifinals directly as leaders of group A, with 15 points, three wins and no losses, followed by the Americans (10/2-1), the Chileans (4/1-2) and the Dominicans (1/0-3).

For their part, the Canadians (10/2-1) also advanced directly as leaders of B, escorted by the Puerto Ricans (9/2-1), the Mexicans (7/2-1) and the Brazilians (4/0-3).

In the challenge for the bronze medal, the teams of Chile and the United States will be in action, with the precedent of the group phase, in which the North Americans won 3-0 (25-22, 25-17 and 25-14) over the South Americans.

Sunday's schedule also includes the matches Puerto Rico-Mexico, for fifth place, and Brazil-Dominican Republic, for seventh place.

The Pan American Cup is a qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador and the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, both in 2023, and awards points for the ranking.

The other important objective of the Cubans is to continue their preparation for the World Championship, scheduled to take place from August 26 to September 11 in Slovenia and Poland.
