Team to participate in the U-15 World Baseball Cup
Havana, August 23 (JIT)-- The Cuban team that will participate in the V Under-15 Baseball World Cup Hermosillo 2022, in Mexico, was presented with the national flag on Monday at the Memorial of the Denunciation, in Havana.
Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and head of its department of attention to the social sector, presided over the ceremony.
He was accompanied by Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of Inder; Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, head of the Cuban Baseball Federation, and other directors of the Cuban sports organization.
Specially invited to the activity was Rey Vicente Anglada, glory of Cuban sports, who handed the national ensign to Broche so that he could place it in the hands of the team's captain, Alejandro Enrique Prieto Alonso, escorted by Alejandro Derlys Cruz Echemendía and Roberto David Peña Torres.
Mailon Batista was in charge of reading the athletes' commitment, which highlighted their total dedication, discipline, compliance with the rules and loyalty to the Revolution. Special mention was made of the desire to pay a new tribute to the victims of the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.
Pérez Pardo pronounced the central words of the meeting, in which he said that "we have witnessed their hard preparation throughout the last months. We know that they make up a quality team that is very committed to achieving good results. We congratulate them for being part of this team, for the possibility of carrying our four glorious letters on their chests, and we urge them to live and enjoy the event with responsibility and pride.
He also considered that "it will be a difficult tournament, facing historical rivals of high quality. But Cuban baseball can shine at this level and demonstrate once again its vitality in the midst of the U.S. blockade and the many other aggressions in which we live.
The artistic touch was provided by Duany Ramos, singer of the Moncada Group, and instrumentalist students of the National School of Arts.
The Cuban team will leave this Tuesday for the venue of the event, where it will make its debut on August 26 in the group against Mexico (11:30 p.m. on the island). A day later it will face the Czech Republic (6:00 p.m.) and will conclude the preliminary stage on August 30 against Taiwan (10:30 p.m.).
The previous edition of the competition took place in Panama in 2018, won by the United States. The island team placed fifth.
In the 2012, 2014 and 2016 events, Cuban teams won silver, gold and gold medals, respectively.
